Brasiliense Mini Social Tour

Brasiliense will be making a stop on their mini tour in Santa Barbara to perform at the Brazil Arts Cafe!

Brasiliense is musical collective of multi-instrumentalists with a shared passion for the rich musical traditions of Brazil. The music is a culmination of various forms of Brazilian music fused with jazz and other American styles, largely expressed through the distinct compositional voice of the group’s guitarist, Brazilian born Ian Faquini. As described by writer Andy Gilbert in SF Classical Voice, “Faquini writes astonishingly sophisticated Brazilian pop music in the omnivorous tradition known as MPB (música popular brasileira), which often draws heavily on jazz. Born in Brazil and raised in Berkeley, Faquini is a protégé of Guinga, the revered Brazilian guitarist and songwriter whose tunes have been recorded by dozens of MPB stars...While his harmonic palette is unmistakably inspired by Guinga’s writing, Faquini often draws on styles from Brazil’s northeast.”

Though he’s the only Brazilian musician in his band, Faquini has connected with American artists steeped in an array of Brazilian styles. Besides Faquini, the quartet features a particularly impressive array of talent: NYC-based, San Francisco-raised trombonist/vocalist Natalie Cressman of the Trey Anastasio Band, Oakland-based flautist/vocalist Rebecca Kleinmann, and San Diego-based drummer/guitarist Julien Cantelm. “With the two and three-part vocal harmonies hugging the Brazilian-accented Portuguese and warm voicings for alto flute and trombone, Brasiliense feels like a much bigger ensemble.” (Gilbert, SF Classical Voice)
